Common Paths to Housing and Community
Development
Every year, the housing and community development practice
hires qualified professional staff with an interest in public
purpose and community development issues. Degrees held by
our staff are frequently in the fields of public policy,
government administration, economics, and urban planning.
- Recent college graduates with a bachelor's degree generally
join us as Research Assistants.
- Recent graduates with a master's degree generally join
us as Associates.
- Professionals who have a master's or other advanced degree
and several years of relevant professional experience are
hired at a position commensurate with their experience and
skills.
Once at ICF International, our practice supports staff development
in a variety of ways. Formal staff development activities
include on-the-job training, professional development programs,
and company support to attend professional conferences and
seminars. Our practice also provides mentoring programs for
interested staff.
As for job longevity, we have some Vice Presidents who started
their careers as Associates. In other instances, staff stays
with us for a few years before going back to school for an
advanced degree. Some of these people continue with ICF International
on a variable part-time basis while others rejoin the company
after completing their studies. There are also people who
work with us for a few years and then leave to become part
of our ICF International alumni and clients.
