ICF International's Winter 2009-10
Natural Gas Markets Outlook

November 2009
Energy & Environment Intelligence Briefing

Kevin Petak, ICF vice president for gas market modeling, provides an overview of ICF’s winter outlook for natural gas markets.

With natural gas prices the lowest in several years and storage at a record high, what can we foresee for the winter heating season? Certainly prices will increase, but how much? And what will next year bring? Have new shale gas resources moved us into a new chapter for North American gas pricing?

For this month’s webinar, Mr. Petak will provide ICF’s latest view on the natural gas market, the effect of new shale resources, the potential effect of an economic recovery, and the outlook for the remainder of this year and next year.

Mr. Petak has directed numerous energy market analyses to support strategic planning needs at energy companies, including natural gas producers, pipelines, and energy marketing affiliates. These analyses have investigated, among other factors, the impact of pipeline expansions on gas prices, the effect of weather and oil prices on gas markets, strategies to comply with stricter emissions regulations, use of oil backup in power generation to assure system reliability, and the impact of declining productivity on gas price. These analyses have been widely used to support facilities/fuels/contracts management and planning, mergers and acquisitions, investment decisions, risk management, and hedge strategies.
