ICF Consulting Awarded EPA Contract to Help Reduce GHGs through Voluntary Programs

WASHINGTON, DC, January 13, 2003 - ICF Consulting has been awarded a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) global climate change contract to support voluntary programs that work to overcome barriers to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Through this $25 million, 5-year contract, ICF Consulting professionals will support EPA's Climate Protection Partnerships Division's Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gases and Carbon Sequestration Programs.

Under the Framework Convention on Climate Change, the world's industrialized nations pledged to establish policies and measures that reduce GHG emissions. The United States is focused on improving the understanding of the science of climate change; developing win-win partnerships with the private sector, states, localities, and nongovernmental organizations; and working with the international community to reduce the risks of climate change.

As a key agency in implementing the U.S. response to climate change, EPA implements voluntary programs that promote profitable opportunities for reducing emissions of methane and high global warming potential (high-GWP) gases. ICF Consulting will support these voluntary programs in the areas of methane and high-GWP gases, carbon sequestration, economic analysis, GHG emission inventories, and atmospheric chemistry. These programs help to overcome a wide range of informational, technical, and institutional barriers to reduce GHG emissions, while creating profitable activities for industry.

"ICF Consulting is pleased to have the opportunity to continue our support to EPA to address one of the major challenges of our times—climate change," said Craig Ebert, Executive Vice President. "The emission reduction strategies ICF Consulting is helping to develop for methane and high-GWP gases address this significant environmental problem while making the U.S. more competitive globally. ICF Consulting has the privilege to work with EPA on programs that will have a lasting impact well into the 21st century."

For more than 20 years, ICF Consulting has been providing services to evaluate global climate change issues. ICF Consulting's team consists of numerous technical professions: environmental/natural resource economists, engineers (petroleum, chemical), atmospheric scientists, environmental specialists, energy/utility analysts, financial and policy analysts, communication specialists, computer programmers, and conference planners.
