FAIRFAX, VA, January 12, 2000 - ICF Consulting has
been awarded a Trade and Development Agency (TDA) contract
to plan and manage a conference on Building a Disaster-Resistant
Asia. Supporting organizations for the conference include
the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration, the Pacific Disaster Center,
and The World Bank. The conference will be held in Honolulu,
Hawaii, from April 2 to 4, 2000. Under this contract, ICF
Consulting's Emergency
Management and Homeland Security practice will design,
promote, arrange, and manage the conference.
Each year, Asia spends millions—sometimes billions—of
dollars responding to and recovering from natural disasters.
In response, Asian countries are building disaster management
systems and seeking technologies that support these systems.
ICF Consulting will invite more than 40 key project decision-makers
and procurement specialists from about 10 Asian countries—including
the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey—to
present current projects that are business opportunities for
U.S. companies. American businesses in the preparedness and
mitigation services sector will find this an exceptional networking
event, particularly those companies specializing in construction
and engineering, contingency planning, telecommunications,
public information and risk communication, geographic information
systems, and remote sensing technology. The conference will
provide U.S. businesses with a unique opportunity to meet
one-on-one with Asian delegates to discuss emergency management
projects worth millions of dollars.
"As emergency management professionals, ICF Consulting
is delighted to partner with TDA to help U.S. vendors export
and implement America's best emergency management practices
in Asia. We hope to assist in stopping the cycle of devastation
caused by disasters," said ICF Consulting Executive Vice President
Peter Linquiti.
ICF Consulting's Emergency Management and Homeland Security
practice is comprised of senior professionals in emergency
and disaster management consulting services. Our staff brings
a distinctive range and depth of skills to organizing this
TDA event. We provide services in every phase of emergency
management across all hazards. "ICF Consulting's staff is
excited at the prospect of helping to create new partnerships
to meet the burden of emergency management," said Linquiti.
