Voluntary
Program to Improve Energy Efficiency of
New Homes in Connecticut
LEXINGTON, MA
- October 13, 2004 – ICF Consulting was
awarded a contract by Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P),
initially valued at $2.1 million through 2005, to administer
the rate-payer-funded Residential New Construction Program
in Connecticut. This innovative program will leverage
the ENERGY STAR® Homes
Program to improve the energy efficiency of new homes
in Connecticut. ENERGY STAR® is
a voluntary partnership among the U.S. Department of
Energy (DOE), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA), and the private sector. ENERGY STAR® helps
reduce air pollution and energy consumption by expanding
the market for energy-efficient products, while the ENERGY STAR® label
allows consumers to easily identify environmental-, energy-,
and money-saving products in the marketplace.
"ICF Consulting will redesign the program
to provide a greater level of technical and financial support
to the marketplace, while significantly reducing program
administrative costs," says Mike Mernick, an ICF
Consulting Vice President. "The result will be that
homeowners in Connecticut will save thousands of dollars
on their energy bills over the life of their homes," says
Mr. Mernick.
"ICF Consulting has an extensive background
in designing and implementing successful energy
efficiency programs throughout the United States and internationally,"
says Jeanne Townend, an ICF Consulting Senior Vice President
who oversees the firm’s Energy Policy and Programs
work. "We are pleased to leverage our national
expertise in energy-efficient
homes programs to support
CL&P in continuous innovation through this new
program approach," says Ms. Townend.
