Honing Emergency Response Skills Critical to Preparedness
LEXINGTON, MA - June 10, 2004 - ICF Consulting has been selected by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Executive Office of Public Safety (EOPS) to design, coordinate, and implement a statewide emergency management exercise program through June 2005. The extended series of exercises will allow state, local, and federal agencies to practice the skills and communication necessary for an effective response to a range of emergency and security-related events. The $2 million contract covers more than fifty exercises, both “live” and “tabletop.”
“Among the benefits we offer the State is our extensive background in designing and implementing exercises in both the public health and public safety sectors,” said Anita Kellogg, a Certified Emergency Manager and Senior Vice President with ICF Consulting. “We have rich domain expertise in critical infrastructures and resources as well as robust subject matter experience in risk management, emergency management, and homeland security.”
“We will use this expertise to formulate exercises that explore an array of situations that could be experienced within the Commonwealth—including biological and chemical attacks or accidents,” continued Kellogg. “Practicing emergency response skills is critical. Raising the specter of potential problems helps agencies, hospitals, and first responders formulate the appropriate response and plan for it in advance.”
ICF Consulting offers a variety of analytical and technical services that support each phase of the emergency management continuum: prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. The firm has 20 years of regulatory and operational experience in emergency preparedness, public health, and environmental protection.
