ICF Kaiser Awarded $15 Million in Contracts to Support EPA's Chemical Management Programs

FAIRFAX, VA, Jan. 8, 1998 - ICF Kaiser International, Inc. (NYSE: ICF) today announced that it has been awarded two contracts –worth up to $15 million –to provide technical assistance to two of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) chemical management programs.

The first contract, which is valued at up to $9.3 million over four years, is with EPA's Chemical Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Office (CEPPO). ICF Kaiser will provide a range of analytical and technical support services for planning, implementing, and evaluating EPA's chemical emergency preparedness and prevention programs. This is a renewal of a contract that the company has held since 1990. ICF Kaiser's support of EPA's chemical emergency preparedness and prevention programs dates back to the aftermath of the chemical accident in Bhopal, India, in 1985.

The second contract, worth up to $5.3 million over five years, is to assist EPA's Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT), National Program Chemicals Division. EPA's National Program Chemicals Division is responsible for establishing EPA policies and programs for lead, asbestos, PCBs, refractory ceramic fibers, and other substances designated as national program chemicals. The Division currently is focusing on lead poisoning, which is the nation's number one environmental threat to young children. Under the awarded contract, ICF Kaiser will provide analytical and technical support in the development of regulations and risk-reduction programs for national program chemicals; will develop and produce publications, videos, and other communications materials; and will provide a variety of research assistance.

"ICF Kaiser has worked with CEPPO since its inception, and has extensive experience working on lead poisoning prevention programs for both EPA and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development," said Marc Tipermas, President and COO of ICF Kaiser. "Our staff are committed to these prevention programs and are proud of their roles in developing them."

ICF Kaiser supports EPA in a number of other areas, including air quality, global climate change, and energy conservation.
