ICF Consulting Awarded $5.3 Million EPA Contract to Make Scientific Research More Understandable to Non-Technical Audiences

WASHINGTON, DC, October 28, 2003 - ICF Consulting was awarded a new $5.3 million, 5-year contract by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Center for Environmental Research (NCER) to provide technical and communications support services for the development of science summary reports. The goal of this new initiative is to make scientific reports on NCER-funded research more understandable for non-technical decision-makers and the public. NCER funds high quality environmental and human health research by leading scientists across the nation.

"ICF Consulting is very pleased to work with EPA on this new contract," says Dr. William Mendez, Program Manager for the new contract. "These reports will help to disseminate important scientific research results using plain English to improve public health and protect the environment. ICF Consulting has provided similar support on several other large contracts in recent years, and we are eager to leverage this experience to assist NCER," says Mendez.

In addition to having the breadth of scientific expertise necessary to characterize the impact of the wide variety of research and development information generated through NCER's research grants, ICF Consulting also has an award-winning communications staff. ICF Consulting's communications practice was ranked number one in government and in social education public relations for 2002 by the Council of PR Firms, and is the thirteenth largest public relations group in the nation and second largest in the D.C. metropolitan area.

For more than 20 years, ICF Consulting has provided services in environmental sciences, engineering, and communications. ICF Consulting's team consists of a large number of technical professionals: atmospheric scientists, chemical engineers, ecologists, toxicologists, economists, financial and policy analysts, communication specialists, and experts in facilitation and training.
