Firm Commissioned to Perform Low Emission Scenario Analysis
for Canada on Behalf of NRTEE
TORONTO, CANADA, 28 November 2005 - ICF
Consulting is pleased to announce that it has been retained
by the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy
(NRTEE) to determine how Canada can reduce its greenhouse
gas (GHG) emissions by 60 percent by the year 2050. The contract
to perform low emission scenario analysis for Canada on behalf
of NRTEE is valued at C$330,000 and is expected to be complete
by March 2006.
ICF Consulting’s global
climate change experts will
perform extensive energy
scenario modelling and analysis to
identify the combination of factors—technological and
otherwise—that will contribute to a low emission future
for Canada. In Canada, ICF Consulting is leading the effort
that will inform Canada’s next generation of climate
change response policies. NRTEE’s goal for this program
is to have ICF Consulting identify the strategic directions
for energy and climate policy the government must pursue
now to put the country on a course for a 60 percent reduction
in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 in a manner that
will contribute to Canada’s economic prosperity and
competitiveness. ICF Consulting leads a distinguished team
that includes Systematic Solutions and the Centre for Spatial
Economics, which are providing support in energy and macroeconomic
modelling.
"ICF Consulting will utilise its proven scenario approach
to the NRTEE project, emphasising the long-term strategic
issues over the shorter-term energy issues," says Ralph
Torrie, a vice president in the firm’s Toronto
office. "Based
on our past experience in investigating deep reduction scenarios,
the depth and breadth of our expertise in climate change,
and the wide range of public and private sector clients we
work for, our team of distinguished professionals will bring
a fresh perspective beyond using conventional methods to
analyse a long-range future with such deep emission reductions,"
says Mr. Torrie.
ICF Consulting is pleased to be present at the first
Meeting of the Parties (MOP) to the Kyoto Protocol at the
Conference of the Parties (COP). There, NRTEE chairman
Glen Murray will be describing this work at a COP/MOP side
event, Transitioning to the Low Carbon
Economy, at
1 p.m. on Monday, November 28, in Room 4. ICF Consulting
Vice President Ralph Torrie, who is leading the firm’s
climate change scenario development work, will be present
at this side event and will participate on a panel of international
experts addressing the topic, National
Scenarios for Low Emission Futures, in Room 5 on Saturday,
December 3, from 4-6 p.m. at the COP/MOP.
