ICF Consulting Awarded $7M EPA Contract
to Address Risks from Lead-Based Paint
and Other Priority Chemicals

WASHINGTON, DC, February 12, 2003 - ICF Consulting has been awarded a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) contract with the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxic Substances (OPPT) to assist in developing and implementing regulatory and voluntary programs to reduce risks to human health and the environment from designated toxic chemicals.

In 1978, when lead in paint for residential use was banned, three to four million children in the United States had elevated blood lead levels. In the 1990s, that number dropped to about 900,000 kids. While the number continues to decline, a significant challenge remains to make further reductions through coordinated federal, state, and private-sector programs. Through this re-compete contract, ICF Consulting will continue to assist OPPT in developing and implementing both regulatory and voluntary programs to reduce risks from the use of lead-based paints, dioxins, mercury, PCBs, asbestos, and other chemicals. ICF Consulting's technical team of policy analysts, communications specialists, statisticians, economists, chemists, programmers, attorneys, and engineers help solve these environmental problems.

"ICF Consulting is pleased to have the opportunity to continue our support to EPA to address one of the nation's most important environmental problems for children—exposure to lead," said Peter Linquiti, Executive Vice President. "The strategies and programs that we are helping EPA to develop for lead-based paint risks will further reduce childhood lead poisoning while addressing the impacts on property owners, the renovation and remodeling industry, and other industries."
