ICF Consulting Joins EPA and DOT
in Easing Commuting Burden

Offers Innovative Commuter Benefits to Improve Traffic and Air Quality in the Washington Area

Washington, DC, August 27, 2001 - ICF Consulting announced today that its Washington, D.C., office has joined the Commuter Choice Leadership Initiative (CCLI), a voluntary business-government partnership that promotes employer-provided commuter benefits. The national program was developed to improve traffic flow and air quality by encouraging U.S. companies to offer employees alternatives to driving to work alone.

By participating in the initiative, ICF Consulting has earned the designation "Commuter Choice Employer" (Note: The name changed to "Best Workplace for Commuters" in July 2003.), a mark of excellence for environmentally and employee friendly companies. ICF Consulting is the first employer in Washington, D.C., to join the initiative. Seven hundred employees at ICF Consulting are covered by the new commuter benefits, which will reduce traffic and air congestion in the area. ICF Consulting will offer its employees a variety of commuting options including transit subsidies, guaranteed rides home when needed for users of public transit or car pools, and promotion and support of alternative commuting, e.g., biking, walking, car pooling.

"Not only does ICF Consulting advise clients on many of the issues addressed in the Commuter Choice Leadership Initiative, but this offers an outstanding opportunity for our firm to carry out its commitment to the environment and the community. And, our participation rates in the initiative confirm that employees see the provision of commuting options as a valuable benefit," said Sudhakar Kesavan, ICF Consulting Chairman and CEO.

A Commuter Choice Employer with 1,000 employees can take 175 cars off the road annually, saving nearly 44,000 gallons of gasoline and reducing global warming emissions by 420 metric tons. The same employer also can save participating employees $13,000 in taxes and $160,000 in gasoline, parking, and vehicle costs each year.

Companies that offer employees commuting options report improved employee recruiting, job satisfaction, and retention. A recent study showed that 8 of 10 employees would use commuter benefits if they were offered in their work place.

"The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) commends ICF Consulting for doing their part by becoming a Commuter Choice Employer," said Margo T. Oge, Director of EPA's Office of Transportation and Air Quality. "Offering great commuter benefits for employees improves our communities and our environment, as well as our economy. Commuter Choice Employers are models of environmental leadership."
