Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
NRC, three other federal agencies, and seven contractor
firms jointly used CommentWorksSM to
rapidly address comments on a draft environmental
impact statement. This team of over 100 staff
located in 10 states used the system to draft
the comment response document. NRC managers used
CommentWorksSM to assign responsibilities
for each agency or contractor and to track efforts
at every stage in the process. NRC also used CommentWorksSM
to accelerate the finalization of a medical waste
rule.
U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA)
ICF International has supported several EPA offices
by implementing CommentWorksSM to speed
responses to comments on controversial proposed
rules. Our services have included training EPA
staff in how to use the system, sorting comments
by issue, drafting comment summaries and responses,
and technical and administrative support.
Federal Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA)
OSHA received more than 7,000 comments on
its controversial ergonomics proposal and published
a final rule within four months after formal hearings
closed. To help meet this challenge, OSHA used
CommentWorksSM to search the voluminous
administrative record efficiently and to identify
and address all significant issues raised by the
public.

everthe Naval Petroleum Reservein
record time with the help of CommentWorksSM.
The application enabled DOE to understand the
public comments; organize responses; and track
the status of comment summaries and responses
over the Web. DOE was able to complete its final
document within 30 days of the close of the public
comment period, saving a substantial amount of
time and money.
Consulting Firms
A team of consultants preparing an environmental
impact statement (EIS) for a controversial proposed
rail construction project will soon be using CommentWorksSM
to manage the public comment process. The project
team plans to use CommentWorksSM to
collaboratively review, summarize, and draft responses
to comments received during the pre-scoping phase,
the scoping phase, and the formal comment period
that follows publication of the draft EIS.
