the complex logistics involved in making an event truly successful.
We work closely with our clients to choose the optimum venue,
secure and manage vendors, develop event materials such as
programs and signage, and provide expert on-site coordination
for event day. We are detail experts, and our goal is for
our clients to be unburdened with the massive array of event-planning
details, but more than satisfied with the end resultan
event to be remembered.
America Recycles Day
Client: Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
(PADEP), Recycling Program
Urging Pennsylvanians to "Resolve to Recycle"
at the Commonwealth's fourth annual celebration
ICF International coordinated event logistics with PADEP and
Home Depots statewide to recognize America Recycle Day. The
premier event took place at the Home Depot located in Lancaster,
Pennsylvania. During the event, a variety of activities took
place including educational seminars, recycling games, and
children's workshops. The Executive Deputy Secretary for Policy
and Communications kicked off the event with brief remarks
to the public, as well as hosting the first "Recycling
Trivia" game created by ICF International. Two tables with
recycling materials and a demonstration composting bin were
set up at the front of the store and staff fielded questions
from the public.
In addition, we coordinated two comprehensive composting
seminars at Home Depot, giving away PADEP counter composting
buckets at the conclusion of the workshop. Throughout the
day, PADEP recycled-content tote bags were also given away
to shoppers who pledged to buy recycled-content goods in the
upcoming year. The event was tremendously successful, resulting
in the collection of almost 900 pledge cards and providing
an opportunity to educate people about the variety of ways
to recycle and cut down on waste in their homes.

The Great ENERGY
STAR® Lighting Change-Out
Client: California Residential Lighting
and Appliance Program
Californians invited to exchange old halogen torchiere
lamps for energy-efficient ENERGY
STAR® models
|
With the goal of raising awareness of ENERGY
STAR® and energy
efficiency among consumers in California, ICF International
helped the California Residential Lighting and Appliance
Program hold "The Great ENERGY
STAR® Lighting Change-Out"
event from October 7-15, 2000. Promoted nationally by
EPA and supported locally by Pacific Gas and Electric
Company (PG&E), the campaign invited consumers to
bring their old halogen torchieres to trade in for more
energy-efficient, ENERGY
STAR® compliant models.
Media relations activities included a media event and
a halogen fire hazard demonstration, as well as a media
outreach campaign timed to coincide with Fire Prevention
Week. Press kit materials were distributed to both print
and broadcast media in PG&E's utility service territory.
As part of this activity, we created, assembled, and
distributed press kits and media advisories, made follow-up
calls to media, and facilitated six broadcast media
interviews with PG&E corporate communications staff
in Fresno, San Francisco, and Santa Maria.

Pennsylvania Governor's
Award for Environmental Excellence
Client: Pennsylvania Department of Environmental
Protection (PADEP), Office of Pollution Prevention and Compliance
Assistance
Recognizing businesses, municipalities, and organizations
in Pennsylvania that have implemented projects that reduce
waste, prevent pollution, or improve energy efficiency
Since 1999, ICF International has supported Pennsylvania's
annual Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence. We support
the ceremony both through materials development and media
outreach. We write, edit, design, and products the Governor's
Award ceremony booklet, a 52-page, 2-color, saddle-stitched
booklet containing case studies highlighting each award-winning
organization. We also design the yearly applications and winner's
kits containing a sample communications plan, press releases,
window clings, and other materials to help winners promote
their awards. ICF International also coordinates media outreach
for the ceremony, which includes generating print and television
media lists; compiling and distributing print media packets
with news releases, background information, and a copy of
the booklet; developing and distributing a video news release;
pitching to television stations regarding a live satellite
feed to the awards ceremony in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and
conducting follow-up media tracking.

Pennsylvania Sports
Marketing
Client: Pennsylvania Department of Environmental
Protection (PADEP), Recycling Program
Coordinating promotional events at major and minor league
baseball and minor league hockey games across the state to
reach residential audiences with recycling messages
ICF International manages PADEP's sports marketing efforts, which
includes negotiating contracts, ensuring recycling containers
are at the stadiums, and identifying promotional opportunities.
Attendees have been given stadium seat cushions made from recycled
materials and exposed to communications messages reinforcing
the importance of recycling. These messages are displayed in
programs, on field signs, on the scoreboard, and read by announcers
throughout the games. These efforts also include radio and video
play of public service announcements featuring PADEP's Recycle
Team cartoon characters and appearances by costumed Recycle
Team characters, procured by ICF International to entertain the
fans.
