Michael Smith has more than 10 years of experience in data analysis, strategic planning, risk assessment, decision support tool development, and project management. He supports a broad range of analytic efforts for an Office of the Secretary of Defense client, and his products have included spreadsheet analysis, fact sheets, databases, data visualizations, decision briefings, and other products that support decision making at the highest levels of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). Mr. Smith also manages U.S. Air Force (USAF) projects assisting development of mobilization and deployment policy and in the conversion from military- to civilian-grade jet fuel.
Mr. Smith is an active member of the military operations research community and presents and writes on big data, data science, and the future of operations research. He presented at the Military Operations Research Society Symposium on a number of topics, including a quantitative policy evaluation of the troop surge in Iraq. He is also a member of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science and is a study guide member and author of the Certified Analytics Professional Examination Study Guide (2014).
Mr. Smith has a master's degree in Public Policy from Georgetown University and a B.A. in International Economics from Longwood University.
