Bhuvana Sukumar is the project director of SAMHSA's National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative (NCTSI) evaluation. She is responsible for evaluation design, instrument development, oversight of fieldwork and data collection, work with local grantees, U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and institutional review board application submission, quality assurance, data analysis, and report and manuscript writing. Dr. Sukumar has extensive experience on research projects related to children’s issues and public health, including multiple longitudinal multisite projects funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Dr. Sukumar has specific expertise and skills in research design; database design and management; Web-based survey administration; provision of technical assistance and training (TAT); advisory group and expert panel management; implementing and evaluating evidence-based programs; data analysis, including social network analysis; and report writing. Dr. Sukumar serves as the process study lead for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)–funded Project CHOICES intervention project. She also managed projects funded by CDC’s Healthy Aging Program, in which she has overseen the development of dissemination materials relevant to evidence-based interventions (EBIs). For the National Evaluation of the Systems of Care program, she has managed clinician training, implementation of an EBI, and evaluation of the effectiveness of the intervention.
