An FBI Briefing of the Cyber Threat to Our Critical Infrastructure in the 21st Century

Cybersecurity Breakfast Series
Categorized Under: Homeland Security, Information + Data Management

ABC News recently reported that the "Nation's Infrastructure Still Vulnerable to Cyber Attacks." They stated that “in past wars, a hostile army would send troops to sabotage a bridge. Now a terrorist can send a suicide bomber to attack a mass transit system.” This threat has only escalated as the U.S. has entered the new millennium.

To raise awareness of this risk and to provide information to interested parties, the topic for this month’s cybersecurity breakfast is "An FBI Briefing of the Cyber Threat to Our Critical Infrastructure in the 21st Century." This very special presentation will focus on the cyber threat to our critical infrastructure. ICF's guest speaker, Steven R. Chabinsky, will discuss how cyber threats continue to evolve, foreign vs. domestic threats, and international law. The risk of espionage, fraud, and what the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is doing as a member of the National Cyber Study Group and the Joint Interagency Cyber Task Force are also topics.

Topics to be addressed:

  • Cybersecurity trends as they relate to critical infrastructure
  • Cyber threats, domestic as well as international
  • The risk of espionage in the 21st century
  • U.S. federal initiatives related to cybersecurity
