Using Effective Questioning to Inspire Critical Thinking in Young Children

Categorized Under: Education

Dr. Ed Greene, Wendy Kelly, and Amy Dombro, educators and Piramide Specialists, invite practitioners and administrators to participate in a webinar that introduces innovative questioning strategies from the Piramide Approach that moves and expands children’s learning in a deeper and more meaningful way.

Recent research shows that the use of an intentional method of questioning significantly deepens children’s understanding of a concept and their ability to think critically and creatively. The use of nearness and distance questions can guide a child from a concrete understanding to a more abstract and complex understanding of a concept or idea.

Presenters will discuss how using specific questioning techniques can help students and teachers tap into higher-level thinking skills and aid students in becoming active, rather than passive, learners. In addition, they will address how effective questioning is at the very heart of learning, the central skill in the teaching-learning process. During the webinar, you will learn:

  • How to use questioning to go beyond surface level knowledge and recall
  • How to use effective questioning strategies to broaden and deepen children’s learning
  • How to increase children’s complex thinking skills through effective questioning

ICF has partnered with Cito, an internationally recognized education organization and Cito USA, a dedicated team of early childhood researchers, practitioners and trainers, to bring the Piramide Approach webinar training series to early childhood professionals and communities across the United States.
