Support for Impacts of Climate Change and Variability on Transportation Systems and Infrastructure

Gulf Coast Study, Phase 2

Categorized Under: Climate, Transportation

ICF International is performing an in-depth assessment of transportation assets across all modes for a Gulf Coast metropolitan planning organization (MPO) to:

  1. Identify critical assets
  2. Assess climate impacts on those assets
  3. Assess vulnerability
  4. Perform detailed engineering assessments of vulnerable infrastructure, including a review and analysis of adaptation options

The results of this MPO-specific research and analysis will inform the development of risk management information that will be used in the study region to decide what infrastructure or transportation programs need protecting and to prioritize efforts to protect, accommodate, or relocate assets. More broadly, this work will result in a series of reports as well as hands-on tools to assist state departments of transportation and MPOs as they consider climate among the suite of risks facing their transportation systems at all stages, including planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance, long-term asset management, and emergency response.
