Rider 42 Professional Development Research Study

Categorized Under: Education, Research + Evaluation

ICF was part of the evaluation team responsible for conducting a formative evaluation of several statewide teacher professional development (PD) academies in Texas. The PD academies focused on improving teachers’ knowledge, awareness, and integration of standards and assessments in their classrooms in order to improve student achievement.

Under subcontract to Gibson Consulting Group, the firm that was collaborating with the University of Texas at Dallas Education Research Center (UTD-ERC) to assist the Texas Education Agency (TEA)  with this study, ICF provided support by leading the formative assessment of the content, delivery, and participation in the face-to-face PD across several academies for teachers statewide in Texas. For this task, ICF developed observation protocols, trained PD observers, sampled and scheduled sessions for observations, organized and developed protocols for an expert review of materials, managed and analyzed data, and reported findings.

In addition, ICF consulted with the entire evaluation team on all aspects of the study and contributed staff to the classroom observation task. Formative findings were presented throughout the course of the evaluation to inform decisions about the development and implementation of the teacher PD academies.
