Climate Ready Estuaries Program

Categorized Under: Climate, Environment

ICF International assisted the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in this effort to address climate change in coastal areas. The Climate Ready Estuaries (CRE) program is designed to assess the vulnerability of estuaries to climate change effects, develop and implement adaptation programs in coastal areas, educate stakeholders about climate change, and expand the lessons learned to other coastal areas.

ICF has developed a suite of outreach and technical materials for the CRE program, including adaptation planning guidance, a synthesis of adaptation options for coastal areas, the program website, and a Coastal Toolkit.

As part of the CRE program's larger effort to provide technical assistance to national estuary programs, ICF worked with EPA and CRE partners to develop adaptation plans and to implement selected actions within these plans. ICF’s support to CRE partners included the development of a variety of technical products, including a stakeholder outreach plan for the Casco Bay Estuary Program, climate change indicators and a monitoring plan for the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program and the Long Island Sound Study, and climate change indicators for the Puget Sound Partnership.
