Supreme Court Rules on Wetlands

The United States Supreme Court, on June 19, issued an important and long-awaited ruling dealing with the regulation of wetlands. The USSC decision— Rapanos v. United States consolidated with Carabell v. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Rapanos et ux., et al. v. United States, 547 U.S. __ (2006)— has the potential to affect the treatment of tributaries to navigable waters, adjacent wetlands, and isolated waters throughout the United States. This Impact Report article is designed to provide some background information about the decision, and its potential ramifications.
