Coal Gasification and Synfuels
  • Prepare various analyses of coal gasification for synfuel and hydrogen production for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and various other clients. Most of this work is based on data from design and cost studies that DOE has performed over the years, although ICF has made adjustments using consistent and updated costs for each major coal handling and process component.
  • Develop material balance adjustments to vary major component sizing based on the elemental analysis of feedstock coal.
  • Prepare material and energy balances and cost estimates for coal conversion, as well as comparisons of costs and performance parameters of various gasification technologies.
  • Develop carbon dioxide output coefficients for various coal gasification plant designs, as well as carbon dioxide capture cost and energy requirement estimates.
