ICF International conducted the Wyoming Wind Collector and study under contract with the Wyoming State Energy Office (SEO) in coordination with the Wyoming Infrastructure Authority. We previously analyzed a wind collector system in Wyoming. In the Phase 1 study, ICF developed a conceptual design for a wind collector system capable of connecting up to 12 gigawatts (GW) of power from potential wind farms in Wyoming to six proposed transmission export lines.
A logical follow-on to the conceptual design—a collector system capable of connecting up to 12 GW of wind energy to proposed high voltage transmission export lines in a state with substantial natural gas production—is to examine location and financing aspects of the collector system and options for integrating the wind and natural gas resources of Wyoming.
