Lab's Identification
of Educational Best Practices Will Benefit Millions
of Students
FAIRFAX, VA, July 5, 2006 – Caliber,
an ICF International company, announced today
that it is one of a consortium of five partners,
led by Pennsylvania State University (PSU), awarded
a five-year, US$34.5 million contract by the U.S.
Department of Education. The ICF Caliber subcontract
includes US$6.5 million to help operate the lab
in the mid-Atlantic region, and an additional US$5
million to help coordinate all ten of the department's
Regional Labs through a new vehicle called the
National Laboratory Network (NLN). ICF Caliber
was selected as the primary partner in the NLN
to coordinate the dissemination of products from
all of the labs. The consortium includes PSU, Rutgers
University, and two other educational and research
consulting firms.
"We look forward to utilizing our knowledge of effective educational practices to assist schools throughout the region," says Maureen Murphy, an ICF Caliber senior vice president and education
expert. "This
best practices identification will help schools
adopt new practices to improve student achievement."
The purpose of the contract is to provide in-depth
research and guidance on proven educational practices
to schools in the mid-Atlantic region. To fulfill
its role, ICF Caliber will conduct regional needs
assessments and develop research and communications
plans annually, as well as provide technical assistance
to local and state educational agencies and schools
in Maryland and the District of Columbia. The firm's
educational professionals also will conduct quick-response
studies on school improvement opportunities, as
well as experimental studies of several educational
interventions in the region.
