Program to Increase Nation’s Environmental Efficiency
FAIRFAX, VA, September 7, 2006 – ICF
International announced today that it has joined
the ENERGY STAR® Change a Light, Change the
World campaign, a growing community of corporations,
utilities, manufacturers, and individuals, who
are actively demonstrating a commitment to environmental
efficiency.
"Participating in this national campaign is both an easy and effective way to demonstrate our dedication to the nation’s environmental efficiency," says Mike Mernick, a senior vice president and expert in energy
efficiency at ICF. "The
pledge is a simple, but vital method of getting
individuals to commit to reducing greenhouse gases
and saving energy resources."
As part of this national movement, ICF has set
a goal of having 500 employees pledge to replace
at least one incandescent bulb or fixture at home
with one that has earned the government’s
ENERGY STAR label. As an indication of the company’s
commitment, executives plan to sign the pledge
and hand out
compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) to
participating employees. ICF hopes to achieve its goal on or before October
4, 2006, National ENERGY STAR Change a Light Day. By reaching
its goal, ICF will be making a significant impact
on the environment, the equivalent of planting
101 acres of trees.
The ENERGY STAR Change a Light,
Change the World campaign has already had a dramatic
impact. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA), pledges taken to date will result
in the reduction of more than 23 million kWh (kilowatt-hours)
of energy and 33 million pounds of greenhouse gas
emissions.
"ICF believes joining the campaign is an excellent opportunity to extend our commitment to social and environmental responsibility into the homes of our employees and their friends and families," says
Sudhakar
Kesavan, Chief Executive Officer at ICF.
ENERGY
STAR was introduced by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based
partnership to reduce air pollution through increased
energy efficiency. Today, with assistance from
the U.S. Department of Energy, the ENERGY STAR
program offers businesses and consumers energy-efficient
solutions to save energy and money, and help protect
our environment for future generations. More than
8,000 organizations have become ENERGY STAR partners
and are committed to improving the energy efficiency
of products, homes, and businesses. For more
