ICF Consulting Receives $4.6 Million Award to Support EPA’s Children’s Health Programs

FAIRFAX, VA, October 4, 2004 — ICF Consulting was awarded a contract by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Children’s Health Protection (OCHP) to support its goal of protecting children and the elderly from environmental threats. Through this $4.6 million, five-year engagement, ICF Consulting will provide scientific analysis and strategic planning efforts to support EPA policy and rulemaking, as well as public education and community outreach assistance.

ICF Consulting will work to help EPA identify elderly- and child-specific susceptibility to environmental pollutants, develop approaches to address exposure, raise awareness and understanding of potential hazards, and enhance educational outreach to families, health care providers, and environmental and medical professionals.

"We’re very excited to be working with OCHP on this very important effort," said Susan Hughes, Senior Vice President and Director of Communications at ICF Consulting. "It’s especially important that we address the potential hazards that can have such an effect on the entire population, but particularly children and the elderly. This opportunity allows us to draw on a wealth of expertise across the entire firm to help enable healthier lives."

ICF Consulting has worked closely with EPA and the diverse issues surrounding land, water, and air pollution for more than thirty years and has supported OCHP since 1998. The firm’s multi-disciplinary approach in environment, community development, energy, transportation, and emergency management is complemented by service offerings in information technology, organizational improvement and training, program management, and strategic communications.
