FAIRFAX, VA , March 25, 2004 - ICF Consulting has
been awarded a $7.1 million, 5-year contract by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Policy Analysis
and Review (OPAR), to support clean air initiatives and air
pollution control programs.
Through this contract, ICF Consulting professionals will
support EPA's Office of Air and Radiation programs. This
division develops market-based regulations and establishes
emissions trading systems to apply the most cost effective
ways of reducing air pollution. Among the activities included
in the contract are a cost and benefits analysis of clear
air litigation, the examination of new techniques to reduce
air pollution, and the cost of attaining air quality standards.
"ICF Consulting is very pleased to continue our support
to EPA. We are in the unique position of being able to provide
EPA with rapid access to our full range of expertise on air
pollution and other environmental problems," said William
Moody, Senior Vice President. "Through the use of our modeling
systems, we are able to provide detailed cost and air quality
analyses for a variety of scenarios. Our economic specialists
are then able to project the overall economic impact for
these scenarios." ICF Consulting's models include the Regional
Modeling System for Aerosols and Deposition (REMSAD) and
Integrated Planning Model
(IPM ®), and they provide
the analytic underpinning for a wide range of important analyses.
ICF Consulting has supported EPA's
Clean Air programs, including
the Acid Rain Program, since 1986 and is at the forefront of
applying market-based approaches to emissions control and mitigation.
One of the most successful public policy initiatives of recent
decades, the Acid Rain Program, achieved greater impact on
a major environmental problem than was thought feasible, more
rapidly than expected, and at a dramatically lower cost than
projected only a few years before its inception. ICF Consulting
also supports a wide variety of EPA efforts to address ozone,
fine particles, acid rain, airborne mercury deposition, and
other Clean Air Act issues, both within the United States and
abroad.
