Training on the Use of Plain
Language
ICF International offers a two-day training course
to help federal government employees prepare documents
in plain language. The course covers techniques
for organizing documents; identifying the intended
audience and its needs for information; using
jargon-free expressions; writing in the active
voice; using different formats (e.g., question-and-answer);
and preparing documents for publication in the
Federal Register.
Consensus Building for the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA)
ICF International has worked with the U.S. EPA since
1990 to convene quarterly meetings of the Clean
Air Act Advisory Committee. This multi-disciplinary
group composed of academics, state and local officials,
trade groups, industry, and lawyers meet with
senior-level staff from the U.S. EPA to trade
views, discuss regulations and legislation, and
deliver formal presentations on the latest research
findings related to clean air.
Technology Transfer for the
U.S. Department of Energy
ICF International was selected to spearhead a new
type of conference called the Global D&D Marketplace.
This innovative effort required us to draw together
government, academia, and industry to identify
and find solutions to challenges at nuclear and
other hazardous waste sites as they go through
decontamination and decommissioning (D&D).
ICF International developed an agenda and logical
framework that allowed participants to form partnerships
to exchange the latest technology, outline funding
sources, and explore innovative, cost-effective
solutions to D&D problems.
Opening International Barriers
for the Trade and Development Agency (TDA)
ICF International has successfully managed numerous
international conferences, including "Building
A Disaster-Resistant Asia," which drew 200
participants to Honolulu, Hawaii, for a three-day
meeting. ICF International vetted speakers, exhibitors,
and delegates while also authoring a briefing
book of projects and developing tours. Through
its support in scheduling U.S. businesses for
appointments with the Asian delegates, ICF International
provided a unique framework for fostering opportunities
for U.S. business development abroad.

Skill Enhancement through
Training for the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development (U.S. HUD) and the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (U.S. EPA)
ICF International is a leader in training, as evidenced
by our services to both the U.S. HUD and the U.S.
EPA in developing training programs, outreach
and advertising materials, and communications
strategies related to lead-based paint. Both the
U.S. HUD and the U.S. EPA have profited from the
synergies that are the natural outgrowth of our
working on both agencies' programs simultaneously.
We have developed training programs for state
and local entities that administer housing assistance,
for the remodeling industry and lead clearance
technicians, and for housing providers on lead-safe
practices.
Healthy Steps for Young Children
for the Commonwealth Foundation
ICF International plays a key role in nurturing the
Commonwealth Foundation's Healthy Steps for Young
Children Program, particularly the effort to build
into pediatrics a greater focus on developmental
and behavioral factors. We managed and facilitated
a meeting of principal leaders, stakeholders,
pediatricians, pediatric nurse practitioners,
pediatric department heads, and philanthropists
to identify the critical program success factors,
the key processes to be improved, and action steps
to move the program forward in its new environment.
Developing Reinvention Recommendations
from Industry for the Rural Housing Service (RHS)
ICF International has assisted RHS in reinvention
efforts by facilitating RHS meetings with housing
industry representatives. Through these meetings,
the participants were able to develop recommendations
for streamlining rental housing program regulations
and improving RHS servicing of multifamily rental
properties. ICF International's support was instrumental
in helping to clarify program requirements and
simplify the process for training new RHS staff.
Facilitating Input from Small
Businesses for the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (U.S. EPA)
ICF International has helped the U.S. EPA satisfy
requirements under the Small Business Regulatory
Enforcement and Fairness Act (SBREFA) by facilitating
meetings to obtain the views of small renovation
and remodeling firms on potential new regulatory
programs for lead-based paint-hazard reduction.
These meetings enhanced the level of input and
cooperation the U.S. EPA received from the small
business community.
